Raimund Nolte

"Nolte deals with everything from light baritone to basso profondo, he's a performer to the core, even in concert roles." This in a nutshell describes the versatility of artist-singer Raimund Nolte, according to one critic.

His vocal art was formed during his years of training under Professor Josef Metternich and is at present being further supervised by Professor Irmgard Hartmann. He initially completed studies in maths, musical pedagogy and viola in Cologne. Yet soon invitations began to come in from all over Europe, Israel, Japan and USA for him to perform as a singer.

There have been engagements with conductors such as Jacov Kreizberg, Vlademir Jurowski, Helmut Müller-Brühl, Howard Arman, David Stern, Andreas Spering, Gustav Kuhn, Enoch zu Guttenberg, Hans-Martin Schneidt, Wolfgang Gönnenwein, Frieder Bernius, Bruno Weil, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Trevor Pinnock, René Jacobs und Reinhard Goebel, under whose direction he has sung at major European festivals such as Salzburg, Ansbach, Prague, Paris, London, Graz, Ludwigsburg, at the Handel Festspiele in Karlsruhe, Halle and Göttingen; as well as on the Canary Islands and the Holland and Flanders Festivals.

Stage and Concert hall are given equal priority by this versatile singer. Thus, following his stage debut at the Festwochen in Innsbruck (1994) there ensued contracts with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, The Bielefeld Theatre Company and foremost at the Komische Oper in Berlin (since 1996). Further engagements at numerous European opera houses (Potsdam, Halle, Brandenburg, Karlsruhe, Darmstadt, Kassel, Salzburg, Rouen, Kopenhagen, Catania) have followed. Besides a special preference for Handelian and, of course, the principal Mozartian roles (Papageno and The Speaker in The Magic Flute, Gugliemo in Così fan tutte, the Count in Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni) this multi-faceted singer has tackled over 45 Baritone and Baß-Baritone roles.

Since 2005 Raimund Nolte has a contract with the Operahouse in Halle, where he sings, a.o., Donner in Das Rheingold, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier and at the Handel Festspiele in Rodelinda, Admeto and Ariodante. In the season 2007/08 he sings Kothner in Die Meistersinger, Father in Hänsel und Gretel, Gobrias in Handel’s Belshazar and the title role in Eugene Onegin. Further plans include this season's performances in the major concert halls of Cologne, Essen, Stuttgart, Munich, Paris, Budapest, and concert series in France and the Netherlands.

To round things off, new CD releases are due out featuring him in Bach's B minor Mass (CARUS) and Saint Matthew’s Passion (NAXOS), Bernstein's Candide (CAPRICCIO) and Michael Haydn`s opera Andromeda e Perseo (OEHMS CLASSICS). New productions of Handel’s Messiah with Wolfgang Katschner and The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell with Diego Fasolis are in preparation.
