Petra van der Mieden

The German-Dutch soprano was born in Nürnberg. After training as a translator for English and Spanish she began her vocal studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. She also took private lessons with KS Claes H. Ahnsjö, followed by studies at the Musikhochschule München and the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding with KS Wolfgang Brendel. In 2000 she concluded her studies with a Opern- und Konzertdiplom.

As a member of the Bayerische Theaterakademie, Petra van der Mieden sang Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) in 1999, as well as Alcina in the year 2000, both at the Prinzregententheater Munich.

In 1999, she also guested as Fiordiligi at the Mainfrankentheater Würzburg. During the 2000/01 season, she guested as Europa (Die Liebe der Danae) at Theater Kiel. In 2001, she was Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at the Tollwood Festival in Munich. In August 2006, she made a guest appearance as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at the Staatstheater Braunschweig.

Petra van der Mieden became a member of Theater Augsburg at the beginning of the 2002/2003 season. The roles she interpreted at this theater include Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Gilda (Rigoletto), Nannetta (Falstaff), Micaela (Carmen), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), as well as Ilia (Idomeneo) and Juliette (Roméo et Juliette).

Petra van der Mieden works as a freelance singer since leaving the Theater Augsburg in September 2006.

In 2007, she guested at the Landestheater Coburg as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Musetta (La Bohème) and Stella (André Previn’s Streetcar named Desire). The Stadttheater Gießen invited her to interpret Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in September 2007. During the 2007/2008 season, she sang Fiordiligi at the National Theater Maribor, Slowenia, First Lady (Magic Flute) in Treviso, Jesi, Fermo and Udine, Italy as well as Arsena (Der Zigeunerbaron) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf.

In 2009 Stadttheater Gießen invited her back to sing Angelica in Haydn’s Orlando Paladino as well as First Lady (The Magic Flute).

In March 2010 she guested as Flower Maiden (Parsifal) at Staatsoper Stuttgart. She will return to Stuttgart in April 2011 for the revival. Further engagements in the season 2010/11 will be, a.o., Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in Hof and her role debut as Agathe (Der Freischütz) at the Naturwaldbühne Wolfratshausen.
