Danish soprano Majken Bjerno was born in Arhus. She studied singing with Prof. Vagn Thordal in Copenhagen. After having received her diploma at the Royal Danish Music Conservatory, she became a member of the Opera School of the Royal Theater in Copenhagen.
Until 1996 Majken Bjerno was a soloist at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen. There she sang parts such as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Mimì (La Bohème), Micaela (Carmen), Leonora in Carl Nielsen’s opera Maskerade and Michal in Saul und David as well Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) and Gutrune (Götterdämmerung). She then interpreted Mimì (La Bohème), Hanna Glawari (Die lustige Witwe), Marie (The Bartered Bride) as well as Luisa Miller at the Stadttheater Pforzheim. She also guested as Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus) in Bremen and Oldenburg. At the Theater Lübeck she sang Alice (Falstaff), Mimì and Beethoven’s IX. Symphony and made guest appearances as Mimì at the Landestheater Linz and the Städtische Bühnen Augsburg.
From 2000 to 2002 Majken Bjerno was a member of the ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. There she interpreted parts such as Liù (Turandot) in a production by Robert Carsen, Saffi (Der Zigeunerbaron), the First Lady (The Magic Flute), Helmwige (Die Walküre), the Third Norn (Götterdämmerung), Madama Butterfly, Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) and again Mimì, this time in a production by Robert Carsen.
In summer 2001 she sang Liù next to Franco Bonisolli in a gala performance of Turandot at the Dresdner Musikfestspiele under the baton of Shao-Chia Lü.
In 2001 Majken Bjerno became a member of the ensemble of the Oper Leipzig. There she sang, a.o., Mimì in a production by Peter Konwitschny, Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) under Asher Fisch, Madame Butterfly and Agathe (Der Freischütz) in a production by Guy Joosten. In July 2005 she gave her role debut as Senta (Der Fliegende Holländer) at the Städtische Bühnen Osnabrück. She was then invited to repeat this role at the Theater Trier.
In 2006/07 she sang, a.o., Agathe (Der Freischütz) at the Den Jyske Opera in Denmark. She was immediately invited back to sing Senta (Der fliegende Holländer) in 2008.
In 2007/08 she sang, a.o., the Mother in Heinrich Sutermeister’s The Black Spider in St. Gallen. In January of 2008, she gave her debut as Salome in Malmö. With the beginning of the season 2008/09 she joined the ensemble of the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, where she sang, a.o., Aida, Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes) and the title role in Emmerich Kálmán’s Die Herzogin von Chicago.
In 2009/2010 she appeared as Primadonna/Ariadne In Ariadne auf Naxos, Marietta / Erscheinung Mariens in Korngold's Die Tote Stadt and as Elizabeth in Britten's Gloriana in Gelsenkirchen.
On the concert stage she interpreted pieces such as Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln by Franz Schmidt in Hamburg and the Lyrische Sinfonie by Alexander Zemlinsky at the Riedenburger Festspiele .
