Joan Ribalta

Joan Ribalta was born in Sabadell, Spain. He studied violin and voice at the Sabadell Conservatoire. Then he studied voice with Joan Cabero and with Antonio Blancas at the Escuela Superior de Canto, Madrid. From 2005 to 2006 he studied at the École Normale de Paris. There he received his Diplôme Supérieur de Chant cum laude. From 2006 to 2007 he also got the concert diploma at the École Normale de Musique de Paris with Isabel Garcisanz.

Joan Ribalta took master classes with, a.o., Kemal Khan, Pedro Lavirgen, Montserrat Caballé, Raúl Gimenez, Sylvia Geszty and Jörg Demus. He won at the Eugenio Marco Competition in Sabadell in 2000, and received the First Prize at the 3. International Belcanto-Competition in Bad Wildbad.

In 2000 Joan Ribalta made his professional debut as Ernesto (Don Pasquale) in Sabadell. The same year he sang Nadir (Les Pêcheurs des perles) at the Festival des deux Catalognes. He also had three guestings at Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf as Angel in Paul Hindemith’s Hin und Zurück, as Tierhändler in Richard Strauss` Rosenkavalier and in 2001 as Beppe in Donizetti’s Rita. In 2001 Joan Ribalta became a member of Städtische Bühnen Osnabrück. There he sang, a.o. Jaquino (Fidelio), Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola), Alfred (Die Fledermaus), Don Curzio and Don Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro), Harlekin (Der Kaiser von Atlantis), Remendado (Carmen) as well as the title role in Bernstein’s Candide. In 2003 Joan Ribalta sang at Kammeroper Vienna the Duke (Eine Nacht in Venedig) and at Städtische Bühnen Osnabrück Piquillo (La Périchole) and Ferrando (Così fan tutte). In 2004 he guested as Ferrando at Theater Freiburg, sang Wirt and Singer (Rosenkavalier) in Osnabrück and Tonio (La Fille du Régiment) at Theater der Stadt Koblenz. In the same year he sang at Theater Pforzheim Almaviva (Der Barbier von Sevilla) and Fritz (La Grand Duchesse de Gerolstein). In 2005 Joan Ribalta sang in Osnabrück Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Victorin (Die Tote Stadt) as well as in 2006 again Tamino in Osnabrück, Fritz at Theater Erfurt, the Swan (Carmina Burana) at the Ravello Festival in Italy, in 2007 Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola) at the Òpera a Catalunya, Spain and in the spring of 2008 Paris (La Belle Hélène) at Musikalische Komödie Leipzig.

In 2008 he will also guest as Almaviva, Felix in the world premiere of Mendelssohn’s Soldatenliebschaft, Chateauneuf (Zar und Zimmermann) and Andres (Wozzeck) in Altenburg and Gera.
