German soprano Anja Scholz was born in Lüdenscheid. First she studied German literature and school music at the Unversity of Osnabrück, before she started to take voice lessons with Prof. Carl-Heinz Müller at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (Conservatory) in Hannover. In 1999 she received her diploma as opera singer.
She continued her studies with Prof. Hildegard Kronstein-Uhrmacher and KS Brigitte Fassbaender.
While still at the Conservatory, Anja Scholz sang, among others, roles such as Felice (I quattro rusteghi) and Hotelboy/Vogelhändlerin (Martinu's Julietta) in productions of the Conservatory in Hannover. Bastienne (Bastien und Bastienne) at the Festival Bad Lauterberg followed, before she joined the ensemble of the Stadttheater Hildesheim in 1997 for two seasons. There she sang, among others, Mascha (Der Zarewitsch), Ottilie (Im weißen Rössl) and Papagena (Die Zauberflöte).
With the beginning of the season 1999/2000 Anja Scholz is a member of the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck. There she has sung, among others, parts such as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito), Julie (Benda's Romeo und Julie), Marzelline (Fidelio), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Nina (Massenet's Cherubin), Anna Reich (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Tebaldo (Don Carlo), Dorella (Das Liebesverbot), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), 1st Niece (Peter Grimes), Yvonne (Johnny spielt auf), Das Fräulein (Aribert Reimann's Gespenstersonate), but also operetta roles such as Mi (Das Land des Lächelns), Juliette (Der Graf von Luxemburg), Stasi (Die Csardasfürstin) and Arsena (Der Zigeunerbaron).
In the season 2005/06 she sings in Innsbruck, among others, Ännchen (Der Freischütz), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Hedwige (Offenbach’s Robinson Crusoe), Bronislawa (Der Bettelstudent) and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), followed in the season 2006/07 by, a.o., Euridice (Glucks Orfeo), Ännchen (Der Freischütz) at Tiroler Landestheater and in the Bregenzer Festspielhaus and Yniold (Pélleas et Mélisande), Nedda (I Pagliacci), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Miss Jessel (The Turn of the Screw). In June 2008 she sang Stefano in Roméo et Juliette.
Plans for 2009/10 include Pamina in a new production of The Magic Flute and Zdenka (Arabella).
On the concert stage, Anja Scholz sings, a.o. Bach’s Kantate Nr. 51 Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen, Christmas Oratorio, St. Matthew’s P’assion, St. John’s Passion, Haydn’s The Creation and Missa Sancti Nicolas, Handel’s Messiah, Brockespassion, Mozart’s Exsultate jubilate, Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, Schubert’s Mass in A-flat-Major as well as Vivaldi’s Gloria.
